50 Years of Piper Club

50 Years of Piper Club

Within a few days the legendary Piper Club in Rome will turn 50, having been opened on February 17th 1965. The Piper was by no doubts the home of popular music in Italy over the 60’s and the early 70’s, covering from beat to progressive, from psychedelia to hard rock. As a matter of fact, the club hosted the best Italian and international acts of those unforgettable times, as testified by shows from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Procol Harum, The Byrds, Pink Floyd, Genesis, but also Italian beat legends, namely The Rokes and Equipe 84, just to mention a couple. Paintings and installations from Mario Schifano and other geniuses of those times contributed a magic atmosphere that made the Piper the place to be in Rome. Nothing lasts forever, and that glorious period was followed by a painful and unstoppable decadence, which did not cancel, however, the poetry and the beauty of a past that still shines today.
